January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month

January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month and healthcare providers and first responders play an important role in preventing this crime and reporting incidents of abuse. There are more than 79,000 adolescents who were victims of sex trafficking in Texas in 2016 according to the UT Institute on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission encourages everyone to:

  • Learn about human trafficking,
  • Understand the signs of child trafficking,
  • Find out how and why to report this crime, and
  • Take the proper steps to report any suspected instances.
