HHSC to Welcome New Executive Commissioner
Texas Health & Human Services Commission will welcome a new Executive Commissioner this month to oversee the agency's 60,000 employees and $80 billion biennial budget.
Courtney Phillips will officially join the Commission on October 19. She comes to HHSC from Nebraska, where she served as chief executive officer for the state department of health and human services.
Dr. Phillips holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology and a Master of Public Administration from Louisiana State University, as well as a Ph.D. in Public Policy from Southern University in Baton Rouge. When Governor Abbott announced the hiring of Dr. Phillips, he stated her “vast experience in health and human services makes her the ideal person to fill this role.” Prior to her experience at the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Dr. Phillips served as the Deputy Secretary for the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals.
