Chapter 157 Amended Trauma Rules Have Published

The Chapter 157 amended trauma designation rules have been adopted and published today in the Texas Register. The rules have an implementation date of Sunday, November 24, 2024, with the exception of §157.125 that will be implemented on January 1, 2025. This rule terminates on August 31, 2025 and on September 1, 2025, §157.126 will be implemented.

These rules include the following:

  • §157.2 definitions
  • §157.123 Regional Advisory Council Requirements
  • §157.125 Facility Requirements for Trauma Designation
  • §157.126 Facility Requirements for Trauma Designation
  • §157.128 Denial, Suspension, and Revocation of Designation
  • §157.130 Funding

Facilities who have trauma designation surveys scheduled prior to September 1, 2025, will be surveyed based on §157.125 requirements.

Facilities with scheduled surveys after September 1, 2025, will be surveyed utilizing §157.126 requirements.

The Regional Advisory Council (RAC) requirements, §157.123 will be implemented on December 1, 2024.
